Santa Ana Theater

Santa Ana Theater is the main center for the representation of the scenic arts of the Salvadoran city of Santa Ana. Its construction began in 1902, finishing in 1910. Until 2009 was administered by the Association of Cultural Heritage of Santa Ana (Acapulsa) and is currently part of the Ministry of Culture of El Salvador.

Santa Ana Theater belongs to the theatrical genre called proscenium (whose distinctive element is to contain an arc that delimits the stage and the audience.

In its time of glory (1910-1933), the vault of the building was painted with portraits of Rossini, Gounod, Wagner, Bellini, Verdi and Beethoven. Also, on the sides of the stage there were areas destined for events and parties.

The theater has several areas, which are the lobby, the Foyer Hall, the Great Hall, the Stage, the Spanish tarage and boxes. It also has architectural details carved with mahogany wood, ornaments made of plaster and paintings by Italian artists.

The curtain of the stage is of the exceptional mouth type and Noveau Art style, made by the Italian artist Antonio Rovescalli. In front of the stage, next to the audience, there is an uneven space where orchestras can be placed. It also has sections and lighting

More than a hundred years of history houses the National Theater of Santa Ana, located in what was known as the Portal de Los Bernal, next to Kessels park.

This space seeks to foster and promote socio-cultural development through the organization and programming of artistic culture shows of national and international origin, with the primary objective of promoting the arts as part of the cultural and spiritual development of the nation.

It is a building of eclectic style due to the various architectural influences: Romanesque semicircular arches, Greek style columns, Greco-Roman eardrums, cushions and Renaissance pediments.

The main access of the Theater is located on the south facade, which has on the first level an arcade with half-point access, as on the second level where the Spanish terrace is located.
